CLEANING OF OLD CEMETERY STARTED

After the initiative of Palilula Municipality and shown needs, the action of cleaning and adaptation of Old Cemetery Gorica was organized. This activity is realized with the Centre for social work Sveti Sava in Nis and JKP Gorica in accordance with the Decree of the Government of Serbia on measures of social inclusion of beneficiaries of social assistance, is part of the world ecological campaign "Clean up the world" 2015 promoted by Media ecological net EKOpolis. Twenty users of social help, that are capable for work and thirty volunteers of the Office for young of Palilula Municipality participated with the workers of communal enterprise Gorica in social-useful community work. The works, because of high daily temperatures, started in early morning hours. First, it was on the central path from the east to the west gate. President of Palilula Municipality Boban Dzunic and Zoran Jovic, director of the Centre for social work in Nis with their associates visited the participants in of the action and gave the t -shirts.

According to Boban Dzunic words, the permanent protection and completion of the works on Old cemetery project are not finished and cemetery complex of Gorica, that is in the surface of 8 hectares (more than 3,4 hectares is deserted space) and more on the target of those people without consciousness who destroy the memorials and throw away garbage. Vegetation very fast covers the space and graves says Dzunic, so that every year we are at the start. Specially is devastated the south part of the graveyard next to Goricka street. As authentic memories about the people and events in Nis with the decision of Nis Municipal Assembly from 1983, eight graves in `old cemetery` are put under protection of the Law. With the Decision of the Executive council of Nis Municipality from June 21 1991 the whole complex of `Old Cemetery ` is proclaimed cultural good and is being protected by the State councilors of the Assembly of Palilula Municipality on the 19th meeting in NKC on October 14 2010 brought the decision on starting initiative in Nis City Assembly to spread the space of Old cemetery `Gorica` and adapt memorial park.

According to the project of the Institution for protection of the monuments of culture and Institute for urbanity, Palilula Municipality during the last years with the support of the City of Nis, provided the resources for phase adaptation and fencing of this area. First, the works on the Eastern gate are finished then created the conditions to continue them on the `West Gate` of the Old Cemetery. About the initiative of Palilula Municipality that was directed few years ago to Nis City Assembly to adapt this space of Gorica into Memorial park we have not received so far any response. That is why this space is left to time passing and is not in its regular programme of sustainability of communal enterprises. Beside the fact that the complex Gorica was declared in 1991 cultural heritage it is not understandable that the contractor for the needs of the reconstruction of Toplana Jug -Heat plant without previous approval in the beginning of July removed the central pillar and damaged the eastern gate of the cemetery. The entry to the old cemetery is now unsecured and parts of the gate in time disappeared.
